It’s the season for gift-giving, which means it’s also the season for thank you cards. What about your children? Showing gratitude is important. It’s never too early to teach kids to write thank you notes.

Why Thank You Notes Are Important
Think about the time it takes to make or choose the perfect present. Friends and family don’t just grab anything. They want to make sure their gifts stand out. They’re looking for something meaningful. That kind of effort deserves a thank you greeting card showing the same gratitude level. It’s true that people don’t give presents with the expectation of thank you notes. Still, acknowledging kindness is something you should never skip. It’s important to let others know how much you appreciate their thoughtfulness.
Should children write thank you notes?
The simple answer is yes. You might be wondering what age is appropriate for written thank-you notes. Start before they’re old enough to write. Tell them what you’re doing and why. Then, ask them what they’d like for you to write. Let them help with stuffing the envelope and adding the stamp. Your child could even put the thank you greeting card in the mailbox!
What should kids write in thank you cards?
Thank you notes build writing skills. But don’t wait until your child can write full sentences. Word Sunshine’s From the Kiddos greeting card series makes writing cards easy and fun. With fill-in-the-blank messages on the front of the card, kids can write simple words or phrases. You could read the cards and do the writing for them.
What about the inside of the greeting cards? They’re left blank for a reason. This provides the perfect space for kids to design their own messages. Grab the stickers and art supplies. Let them show gratitude with a personal touch. The thank you notes from your child will become gifts of their own.
